I incorporate cyber-security into application architecture, cloud infrastructure, and daily operations. My work connects access controls, encryption, application security, and maintenance practices to help organizations protect information and sustain dependable services.
I begin with the information being handled, the people and systems that require access, and the consequences of unauthorized disclosure, alteration, or interruption. Those considerations guide technical controls and operational priorities throughout the application lifecycle.
Security by Design
Security decisions belong within requirements development and architecture. I consider how users authenticate, how permissions are enforced, where information travels, and which components depend on external services.
My background in software engineering, Drupal development, and cloud architecture helps me assess these relationships across the technology stack. I focus on controls that fit the application and can be maintained by the people responsible for it.
Areas of focus include:
- Identity and access management: Aligning authentication, roles, and permissions with organizational responsibilities and the principle of least privilege.
- Application security: Addressing input validation, output handling, access enforcement, and dependency management.
- Encryption in transit and at rest: Configuring appropriate protection for network communications and stored information.
- Credential and secret management: Controlling how applications store, retrieve, use, and rotate sensitive credentials.
- Cloud and network protection: Managing service exposure, environment boundaries, firewall rules, and administrative access.
- API security: Protecting service connections through authentication, authorization, request validation, and appropriate data handling.
- Monitoring and recovery: Supporting investigation, operational response, and restoration through useful logs, backups, and documented procedures.
Access Controls and Information Boundaries
Effective access control requires a clear understanding of who may view, create, change, publish, or administer information. I translate those responsibilities into application permissions and infrastructure access rules.
This is particularly important for platforms serving multiple organizations, groups, or domains. A shared technical foundation must preserve the intended boundaries between users, administrative functions, and restricted content.
I consider access across the complete workflow, including APIs, search results, cached responses, file downloads, and background processes. Permissions must remain consistent wherever the information can be reached.
Encryption and Credential Protection
I treat encryption as part of a broader information protection strategy. TLS secures connections between users and services, while encryption at rest can protect stored data according to the capabilities and configuration of the hosting environment.
The effectiveness of these controls also depends on certificate management, key access, and credential handling. I account for where secrets are stored, which services can retrieve them, and how access can be changed when responsibilities or systems evolve.
For integrated applications, this includes API credentials, database connections, and service accounts. Sensitive values should be managed through appropriate configuration and secret storage mechanisms, with access limited to their operational purpose.
Application and Platform Maintenance
Security requires continued attention as software and infrastructure change. I incorporate dependency updates, configuration review, and controlled deployment practices into platform maintenance.
My Drupal experience includes managing the relationship between core, contributed modules, custom code, and hosting services. Each component introduces maintenance responsibilities that need to remain visible throughout the platform’s lifecycle.
I also consider the security implications of development and testing environments. Access restrictions, production data handling, and environment-specific credentials help maintain appropriate separation.
Cloud, Network, and Service Protection
My work includes Cloudflare capabilities for content delivery, web application firewall (WAF) controls, and restricted access to hosted resources. I connect these services with application requirements and the responsibilities of the hosting provider.
Network controls should reflect which services need public exposure and which require limited access. Administrative interfaces, infrastructure services, and application endpoints may each need different protections.
For AI-enabled applications, I extend this review to external model providers, retrieval systems, and connected tools. Data access, information sent to providers, and permissions governing automated actions form part of the security design.
Operational Readiness
I use logging and monitoring to support diagnosis and investigation while considering the sensitivity of the information recorded. Clear ownership and documented procedures help teams respond when access must be revoked, a credential replaced, or a service restored.
Backup and recovery planning also contribute to security. Recovery procedures need to account for application code, configuration, databases, and files, with verification appropriate to the system’s operational requirements.
My objective is to establish controls that teams understand and can sustain as the application evolves.
Practical Application
I apply this discipline across Drupal platforms, cloud-hosted applications, enterprise integrations, and legal and government information systems. My contribution includes secure architecture, implementation, configuration review, and ongoing technical maintenance, with specialist security assessment incorporated where the project requires it.
My strongest contribution is connecting security requirements with practical engineering decisions across the application and its operating environment.
